Flasher unit on 2014 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost (74kw)

Featured Replies

Hy guys.

I want to upgrade my standard Indicator lamps with LED and I'm aware the current from the LED's wont drive the flasher unit correctly end up with indicators that sound like they're on speed..!

I have tried this already to prove the issue is there so it must have the older (heated element type) flasher unit.

my question is ... where is it ...?

Any help appreciated..

Thanks,

Alex.

Bless you sir, indicator flasher units were last used on Noah' Ark  🤣 funny thing is I've no idea why he needed indicators on an ark !

The indicators are fully controlled by the vehicles computer, known as the Body Control Module (BCM).

In order to fool the BCM to flash the lights at the same speed when you fit LED's you need to fit an appropriate resistor in parallel with the new LED, so that the current drawn by the circuit remains the same as when there was a filament 21W lamp.

As an approximate value use a 6.8ohm resistor. You need to fit one for each 21W lamp you replace with an LED.

Thanks for your quick reply. It's a shame there in no mod to the BCM Module to compensate for this. I didn't really fancy fitting resistors as what a waste of power. I may have a look at fitting more LED's to each indicator panel.

I'll let you know how it goes....

Thanks,

Alex.

These are described as Canbus error free - will they solve the problem? I don't know, but someone on here will.

Yes they work fine. They have a built in load resistor so that the amount of current drawn by the LED replacement unit is approximately the same as the traditional lamp they replace. Anyone thinking that fitting LED indicators will reduce the amount of current taken by the circuit are going to be disappointed.
