Grinding noise under car

Featured Replies

I have a grinding noise coming from under my Ford focus 1.6 diesel eco boost mk3 2012.

the noise happens when the car is in motion and stops grinding when I push the clutch in. It sounds like I’m dragging something metal.

any help to diagnose this issue would be amazing or if anyone has had an issue like this before.

thanks.

Grinding noise under car

someones stealing your cat 🤣

Sounds like a clutch or gearbox fault if it stops with the clutch pressed.  There is a fairly common fault on these, where the clutch pressure plate breaks, and then scrapes around the inside of the bellhousing.  Either way, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted garage, or ideally a transmission specialist, to ask their opinion.  I suspect the gearbox will need removing to confirm any diagnosis.

For reference, EcoBoost is the series of petrol engines.  A 1.6 TDCI could be an Econetic trim.  Or it could just have an 'Econetic Technology' badge, which is just a bit of branding and doesn't mean anything at all.
