Ford focus 1.6 99hp mk2 sounds like a diesel when cold

Hi all,

I bought 3 weeks ago a ford focus 1.6 petrol 99hp mk2, it has strange noise when cold, it sounds a little bit like diesel, when the engine reaches normal temperature the noise disappears. I was told that oil was changed 2200 miles ago, new belts and new alternator was fitted, I changed spark plugs only. Any ideas what can be wrong?
