Plastic creaking around dash on mk4 focus.

Featured Replies

Hopefully someone can advise me on what I might be able to do or even if this is normal but driving around and going over most bumps in the roads, the entertainment screen/ dash area seems to creak quite often.

As well as that there seems to be a intermittent cracking noise that seems to be coming from the passenger side/middle possibly between the dash and front window which is over bumps as well.

I've had the car for just coming up to 5 months and I like the car but it's driving me mad. Don't expect it to be silent as all cars have noises but it seems pretty excessive. Been back to the dealer multiple times but I'm comes back the same so I'm wondering if there is something I can do myself? Or at least some advice on the matter.

If you can find the area where it is creaking then a squirt of Mr Sheen or similar adds a dash of silicone that can lubricate the area where the two panels are rubbing.

Thanks for the response, I had tried silicone spray on the vent which possibly dampened slightly and will be giving it a go around the front window as well?

Well the passenger side seems a lot better. Might be to early to say though. But fingers crossed. The other part that's making noise is the center console the screen to the vents so might be the middle trim/ radio volume controls. Gonna stick something between the surfaces and see what happens. Worse comes to worse I might end up pulling a few bits off and reseating and see how I go. Unless there are any other possibilities of what could cause it?

As we used to say for my old Cortina. Turn the radio up until the noise stops. If you notice it has stopped when the radio is off, the bit probably fell off!

Thanks for the reply and I do do that :'). My issue is I've had the care less than 6 months and the dealer fobs me off each time and says oh it's ok. Then I show them and they are like oh we didn't hear that even after they drove it nearly 200miles. If the car was a good few years old and with plenty of miles I wouldn't care so much. So this is why I'm trying to sort it myself now.
