Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor

Does anyone know why some 1.0 Ecoboost engines are fitted with a CHT sensor in the exhaust manifold area whereas others are just cast blank?

Part number 5298429.

Scoured the internet, can't find anything else about it apart from it being introduced on some models in early 2015.

All the 1.0 Ecoboost engines (up to the later revamp) are so similar it doesn't make sense to me to have two different designs with the same basic casting.

Looks like I'll never know. Ecoboost designers have probably done a runner by now 😀
