Can I disconnect the battery( negative first)

Hi does anybody know if I can disconnect the battery on my 2010 focus tdci 1.6 econetic. I have just bought this car but need to leave it for 3 months unused. I also have an older BMW which when not in use I just disconnect and there are no problems when I reconnect. I intended to do the same with this car but have had mixed advice whether or not I can.you  I have got the radio code so that is not a problem, I am sure there are some experts on here. What do you all think?
