Auto start/stop issue 2016 Focus 1,0 Ecoboost

Featured Replies

Hi, I was wondering if you have any idea about the following issue. The start/stop system works fine most of the year and with ambient temperatures above 15 degree C. However in winter while I am waiting on red signal and start/stop cuts off the engine a few seconds later the start/stop light start blinking, the oil pressure light is on /engine not working/ and a message pups up: Start/stop system malfunction .... In this situation I can't start the engine by pressing the clutch. I have to turn the ignition off manually with the key and start it again with the key. It happens only twice during winter 2022 and much more often last winter /2023/. It never happens in summer. Initially I was concerned about the oil pressure light and taught it was the primary issue but now I suspect that it is the start/stop system issue as I have never had oil pressure warning light on when engine is working /thank God!/. Sorry for my bad English ...

In Stop/start mode, even though there is zero oil pressure, the oil pressure warning lamp does not come on, so as to not alarm the driver.

If the oil pressure light is on it means the car is actually stalled and requires re-starting.

Check battery condition and change if necessary

Yeh, when start/stop if fully functional as it is now the oil light doesn't come on and you are right when its on the car requires restarting. I know that start/stop issues are most commonly related with the battery condition but I've read that when battery is low start/stop simply stops working. Anyway I will check it although everything works fine now.
