Fiesta auto 100 PS or 125PS?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm sorry to ask, but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer -

If I want a 1.0 petrol auto Fiesta Mk8 (I think that's right - looking at 2019-2021) do I have a choice of 100 or 125 PS engines? Or is it determined by whether I have a Titanium or a TitaniumX for example? I've seen 100PS Titaniums and 125 Titanium Xs but I don't know if you can get a 125PS Titanium.

And are the ST-Lines really hard suspension (though I know that's a matter of taste)?

Early auto’s we’re 100ps but with a traditional auto gearbox.

Later auto’s were 125ps but with a dual clutch auto.

I’m sure someone will be along to correct me shortly if I’m wrong 🙂

Correct.

100PS is 6F15 six speed torque converter auto

125 PS is 7 speed DSG, NOT a revised version of Ford's Powershift

Early 125s were non MHEV, current ones are 125PS or 155PS MHEV

You will find the 100PS uses 100% more fuel than the 125PS

Also, 100PS is old wet belt engine, 125PS is new chain engine.

And, sorry, it doesn't matter what model it's fitted to it goes off the PS and year

Thank you all.

But didn't the 100PS engine change to dry belt for the camshaft at some time? I thought I had read that somewhere. Or are you saying that even a 2020 model 100PS will have a wet belt?

If you look at the engine and the turbo is at the front then it has the Wet cambelt.

If the turbo is at the back of the engine then it has a timing chain.

This is where it gets confusing for the Fiesta.

In the Focus, all 1.0EB's were chain driven from the release of the MK4 in 2018.

But in the Fiesta, both engines were used, you literally have to lift the bonnet and look to work out whether it's wet-belt or chain drive.  I haven't found any other way to accurately determine it so far.

The only way to be sure it's chain drive is to go for an MHEV, but I don't think they were available with an auto-box at the time.

Many thanks.

I'm further confused by the description of the locally available 2020 car as a semi-auto by Ford, which usually means DCT, doesn't it. But Dave says it would be a TC gearbox?

Thanks. Even I would be able to spot that!

Dave is the trans man on here so I'd trust his judgement on that.

If you want to post a link, I'm happy to confirm what may be wrong in any individual advert.

A 2020 would be a DCT, 125PS chain cam. There was one model year with the new chain engine, 125PS and DCT (DSG) 7 speed auto but no MHEV, MHEV was manual only

All 100PS including current manual are still wet belt, they must be using the stock up, although it's still fitted to Vile'o'Sport

It's actually 100PS according to the dealer's info, and various car databases. And from looking under the bonnet it's turbo is at the front, so wet belt, I understand.  Dealer said he THOUGHT it was DCT but I didn't have time today to wait while he checked it.

It's got a few nice extras like rear camera and auto-park.

Just tried to reg check it but Ford's site is broken.

Although did find this interesting.  Costs more now than when it was 9 months old!

It's a very late one then. Though I bought many a new Ford that was old when I got it. The worst was a Zetec-S Focus 1.6 registered March 1st 2010 built January 20th 2009

A bit off the point - I have a 125 Titanium X Auto, engine built in January 2021 (turbo at the back!).  It's a brilliant small car with surprising speed and acceleration. The auto box, presumably dual clutch, is very smooth with gear changes only detected by the rev counter. The only drawback IMO is the hard ride on 17" wheels. AFAIK the auto box was only fitted to the Titanium X 125 bhp. Unless you have a special reason for buying a 100bhp then you would probably have to settle for an auto Titanium X. Like you, I'm confused by all the contradictory information from various dealers.

If able to stretch the budget as far as an early Mk 8.5, 7 speed DCT auto was available on all except Trend and ST.
