Re gas AirCon Focus 2012 Diesel

Featured Replies

Sorry to jump over from the Fiesta forum but my nephew wants to regas the air con on his 2012 Focus diesel bur can't find the LP valve connection. This must be in a different position to petrol Focus's. The valve on petrol engined cars is very easy to access being high up at the back of the engine compartment but not in that position on a diesel. There's loads of YouTube videos but they all show petrol versions. Thanks and apologies for trespassing!

Is there a reason he wants to do it himself? A/C gas  (R134a) is exceptionally poisonous, causing blindness if wrongly handled. If you're sure he's competent, and has the equipment to do it safely, I'll hand over to the next post.

However, I'll offer my usual advice anyway. Try KwikFit, if the regas doesn't work, you get your money back. It's unlikely a main dealer, or independent will offer same deal...

Thanks for that - my sentiments exactly! Apparently he has two cans of the refrigerant left over from a previous car that he didn't use so he doesn't want to waste them! I'll pass on your comments to him.

Exactly my thoughts. As many on here know, I'm willing to do almost any and all jobs myself but I draw the line when it comes to home A/C refills. The stuff is dangerous !!

If your going to pay an expert to do it (which is recommend for the reason previously posted) shop around.

I've just had my 2018 Focus done

Main dealer Evans Halshaw Chorley £145

Kwikfit, ATS and virtually everyone else £125

Main dealer Bristol Street Motor Bolton, £110 and a free carwash.

See if theres a wowcher or groupon offer available

Not bad prices, but still, I'd be swayed by the money back guarantee... Also, your car uses the newer, and more expensive R1234 gas. The OP's car uses the older R134a gas, which will cost about £65.

To answer the original question, the LP port is at the back on the 1.6 TDCI, right near the bulkhead connection.

However, these are notorious for slow leaks...personally I'd recommend going for whoever offers the longest refund time as it'll probably lose the gas over a month or two.

Regassed mine 4 times before giving up on it (one of the those was a 'pro' regas that failed within 2 miles of the garage!) despite replacing the condenser and a couple of pipes.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately the car is the 2 litre diesel (2012) and is different from the 1.6. The reason for saying this is that my nephew has at last found the LP port. It's hidden below the radiator on the driver's side (RHD) and can only be accessed from below with the car on ramps/hoist and by removing what seems to be an access panel. A classic example of 'helpful' design! Thanks to everyone for all the very helpful comments.
