Weird problem with revs

Featured Replies

Hi all I have a Ford focus mk 3.
Had a weird problem the other day. The revs were flipping between 1 & 2k (without my foot on the gas) and when I tried to move off the acceleration was really slow. I eventually pulled over and turned the car off for 5 minutes.
After that it worked okay. Anyone know what could have caused this and if I need to check something?

The usual response to an enquiry like this is "have you checked for DTC's (error codes)?".

The best code reader for Fords is Forscan. It's a free download for a Windows PC or you can buy a wireless version for Android. The windows version needs a modified ELM327 OBD cable, the Android version uses an OBD wireless dongle.

Fords use two separate CAN buses, a high-speed (HS) and medium speed (MS). Most code readers can't read the MS bus so won't show all the non-generic codes or be able to communicate with some of the canbus modules. The modified cable can switch between the two, either by a manual switch (cheaper) or automatically (more expensive).
