Fluctuating RPM and smokeing

Featured Replies

Got a prob today notice that if I hard rev especially when stationary or decelerate I have found that the revs will drop from  3-4k down to 500 then bounce to about 1200 then settle at normal 750 I have noticed plenty of whitish smoke and a diesel smell, the car runs fine, mpg fine oil and coolant or both ok and power seems ok...any ideas...

Ps it is definitely not egr or dpf 😉😉

Checked things today , no lose plugs or connections, no split hoses I could see, egr tight, injector seals clean. Took it for a short drive and there was no problems,  rpm stable no real smoke will gave to see what happens when it gets hot...

White smoke and strong diesel smell in exhaust suggests an injector got stuck open.  (Unburnt diesel)

Wouldn't suggest replacing anything unless it happens again though.

Just checking, was the DPF mapped out correctly and a while ago?  If it's still trying to regen, that will dump raw diesel into the exhaust.  Just want to rule that out before considering an actual fault.

Yes it was mapped out also had a replacement ecu as a cowboy destroyed my old one. The new one that was fitted was from recon company and was completely blank .. My mech did say a few months ago that when he started the car he noticed a bit off smoke and did advise I might have a stick injecter  ..i have used a treatment on it...but it's going back Monday and he is going to check it over

Yeah it'll be safe to drive, won't runaway with just one stuck injector.

Keep an eye on the oil level though as excess diesel will end up diluting the oil.

Hi I have the car checked 2 injectors are leaking from the bodies but not showing any leaking into cylinders  ..the turbo is not boosting properly and also worn, so still not got a definite answer, I don't know how to change injectors as the need coding..was debating on getting faulty ones changed with used ones, if I can find a set maybe  all four ( a set of new ones is worth more than the car)...turbo can wait a bit longer, may attempt that myself as purely mechanical  ..how can I tell if I get correct injectors for my car many different types...2010 1.6 tdci 109 hp titanium. Thanks

It'll be Bosch injectors on your engine.  You can get away without coding them in, the PCM should adapt eventually, just expect a bit of smoke and rough running for the first few miles.

However, used injectors are usually on their last legs at this age.  Needing a turbo & a set of injectors would write off a 16v DV6 for me personally, not worth the risk and repair costs.

When replacing the turbo on these, there is a long procedure to follow to prevent the new one failing soon after replacement.  Link here - TM_Sheet 01-2014 e.indd (mahle-aftermarket.com)

Thanks, I just spent a few quid on it when DPF blocked   cowboy garage blew the ecu and stuck a wrong one back on it.   took ages to find the correct one. I can't afford a new car as yet so cheapest option is to repair, if a few hundred gets me out of trouble so be it , I have found a set of injectors but a diff on one number but I have been told they will be compatible...any ideas please. The first pic is mine the other pic is off what I can get off eBay with 3 months warranty.

Those are for the later 8v 1.5 TDCi engine.  I'm not sure if they'll be compatible with a 16v 1.6.

Personally I'd stick to 2008-2011 1.6 TDCI part numbers, especially if you're not coding them in.
