My son's 2007 Focus IC LCD suddenly went blank but the backlight was still illuminated. There were several error codes typical of IC connector solder joint failure. Close inspection confirmed several joints were cracked so I reflowed all the joints. There are 6 long pins on the LCD that push into a 6 way receptacle on the PCB (not the ribbon cable type). The solder joints on the 6 way receptacle looked dry so I also reflowed those. I applied contact cleaner to the receptacle and slid the LCD in and out a few times. It felt like the receptacle was gripping the pins firmly. We cleared the error codes and went for a test drive. The error codes did not return but the LCD is still blank. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's advised not to reflow the solder on these as it's junk, remove and resolder

You should be able to get a replacement LCD

Hi Dave, Thanks for your prompt reply. I did flux the joints and I added some new rosin core solder when I reflowed. They looked uniform and shiny when I had finished. The LCD has pins not ribbon cable but I will see if the company you linked to also do the pin type. Thanks again.

Yes, that was just an example, you should find one OK

My son decided to buy a used IC from Ebay. It was from a Mk2 RS so the graticule overlay is slightly different but the 6 pin chip on glass LCD is identical and has the same part number. We fitted it and it works fine and displays the correct mileage.
