1.0 ST-line vibrations at idle

Featured Replies

For a while I’ve been experiencing bad cabin vibrations at idle in my 1.0 ST-line. Especially in my seats. I went to the dealers who said my engine mounts were shot and replaced them.

Instead of it getting better it’s only getting worse. The vibrations got so bad I can actually see my seats shake at idle. I also feel like my engine shakes a lot when I look under the bonnet but I’ve been told this is normal. The car drives fine and there’s no loss of power or anything. It makes no difference wether press my clutch or not or if I put the car in neutral. The vibrations are always there at idle which makes me think it’s related to the engine shaking this much.

Anyone else had this problem or has an idea what could be causing this? Any help is appreciated!

As long as you're 100% sure that it did have the engine mounts changed, it can only be ignition faults. Has the car been messed with? Remapped etc?

Are the spark plugs good?

100% sure the mounts have been changed as Ford showed me the old ones. I’ve changed the RMM myself, which had a lot of cracks in the rubber which made me hope this would’ve fixed my issue.

Car hasn’t been mapped. Spark plugs should be good as they’ve been checked.

Put a video up. let's have a look at how bad it is. There is some shake at idle on 1.0 Ecoboost

Here’s a video of the engine after a 20 minute drive.

I'll be quite honest Nick, that looks totally normal to me. All 3 pots are naturally unbalanced.

To the left of the oil filler cap is a white label, post a picture of it please

Thanks for putting my mind at ease that atleast the engine movement looks normal. Here’s another video where you might see the engine movement more clearly.

I’ll make a picture of the white sticker later as I can’t get to my car right now.

If the engine movement is normal, do you have any idea what could be the reason for the vibrations in my seats? The vibrations are definitely in sync with the engine’s movement.

I really don't, no.

Other than checking underneath to make sure none of the exhaust is touching any parts or the body anywhere

Has anyone else commented on it?

I'm sure some of us just have more sensitive backsides than others!   The seat vibrations were so bad on mine from brand new I couldn't tolerate it.  Yet my Mum drove it, as did the initial salesmen, and the buyer, without commenting on vibrations it at all.

I previously had a diesel Mk3 Focus with exactly the same issue, idle vibrations right through the cabin.  Changed every mount (despite only 40k on it) but it didn't make any difference.  In the end I sold the car for something with more refinement.  Funnily enough, that's exactly what I've just done with the 1.0EB as well.  Would like to say live & learn but apparently I didn't learn!

Ok, thank you. I’ll check that out.

As I replaced the RMM myself, could it possibly be I tightened the bolts too tight?

My girlfriend never really notices it and when I asked my co-worker the other day he said he didn’t notice any vibrations until I mentioned it, he then noticed a small amount of vibrations but it didn’t bother him.

Might be that I’m really sensitive to vibrations. I always notice vibrations when being a passenger in other cars too. Maybe a 3 pot isn’t for me. 😅

Seems like you need a few deep fried mince pies in you, and get your rear end padded out. A weekend in Glasgow will soon sort the vibrations out.

No no, deep fried Mars bars are much more effective!
