Focus MK2 1.6 petrol clutch slave cylinder inspection

Featured Replies

Anyone got any ideas. Clutch and slave cylinder changed about 6 months ago. Owner just got stranded couldn't select any gears whilst driving. Havent seen it yet but apparently clutch slipping amd burning smell. I am more thinking slave cylinder than clutch gone after all how much torque does a 1.6 zetec produce 🙂 i have a 5mm bore scope with side view camera as well is there a way to get in there with that to see if any fluid. Maybe take starter off but is there enough gap or is there any other way in?

Clutch pedal isn't totally without pressure. Cannot select gears with engine running without foot flat to the floor and reverse is very hard to get without slamming it into position. Tried to bleed clutch save it is one of them quarter turn things I believe and only really getting a mist of fluid rather than a stream. Tried with easy bleed and also mitivac to no avail. Plan was to get it a bit better as obviously the slipping has nothing to do with the hydraulic side?

Is it loosing hydraulic fluid ?

Wasn't a sh*tty Transmech clutch was it?  They're known to be poor quality.  Hopefully there was at least 12 months warranty on it?

As above, if the slave is leaking and getting fluid onto the centre plate, that can cause the clutch to slip.

Not a transmech and apparently supplier says doesn't get many returns after questioning. Fluid was low when  I looked at it but a passerby when it broke down  had bled the clutch for the owner so not sure if that was why fluid was low. Anyway here is the problem. What are the failures on the transmech? Thanks

Wow, don't think I've ever seen a pressure plate crack like that.  Usually rivets fail or the friction material comes away from the centre plate or the diaphragm falls apart or springs pop out.

If that is a Valeo clutch (judging by the box), I wonder if it was a fake?  Valeo was always my go-to supplier!

Were any of the fixing bolts loose out of interest?  Just wondered if the plate was mounted 'wonky' rather than perfectly flat against the flywheel.  That would allow the plate to flex every time the clutch was pressed.

You'd know if the slave had been leaking as there'd be oily fluid splattered around the bellhousing.

Valeo was the replacement just using that box as supplier wants it back for inspection? Clutch had been on for 6months. Purchased the Valeo in preference to the broken one as replacement as didn't want to have to do the job 3x. All bolts were torqued up fine.
