Focus Vignale estate roof bars?

Featured Replies

Hi, I've got a Mk4 Focus Vignale Estate with the electric moon roof.  It has the flush roof rails.  I can see that Ford do a dedicated set of roof bars. It says there's a restrictor in the kit to stop the roof being opened if the bars are fitted. Does anyone know how this works, e.g. how does the restrictor work and why the roof can't be opened? Also is there is a cheaper way for a set of bars that I'd only occasionally use.  I'm guessing the Ford dedicated bars are likely made by Thule.  Thanks for any advice.

I believe the roof restrictor is just an extra 'tab' on the inside of the front cross-rail which sits directly against the roof glass.

The roof regulator uses the same sort of system as electric windows, so it won't keep trying to operate if it senses a large amount of resistance.

I'm not aware of any aftermarket bars for use with the pan roof but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

Thanks for that. That makes sense.
