MK4 lower wheel arch rust

Featured Replies

Hey, my focus was registered in 09/2019 so 4 years old finally got round to cleaning the tar off my car and as I came to the wheel arch I noticed that the paint has started to come off and on closer inspection that it’s now rusting. I removed the plastic guard to notice it had made its way under there also. Checked the other side and the exact same thing has happened. Has anyone had the same issue and gone to a Ford body shop to get it repaired under the corrosion warranty ? I believe the paint warranty is only for 3 years but the corrosion is between 6-12 years.

That won't be covered.  Corrosion warranty only covers perforation (holes) from rust.  That's a paintwork defect which is only covered for 3 years as you say.

You can still try to put in a claim if you want, worst that can happen is they reject it.

Was just gunna type very similar! when the ends of our fiesta started to rust Ford blamed it on stone chipping and that resulted in the spread of rust, they wouldn't even entertain fixing it for me 🤨  With open arms they gladly take your cash, but ignore a plea for help in keeping the car looking nice, but they did say it could be taken into the body shop and repainted, that never happened because I knew the charge would be crazy, so did it myself.....Been fighting the rust ever since.

There’s an old saying, if you can’t find any rust on a Ford it’s because it’s hiding well.
That said, I wouldn’t have expected that at only 4 years old 😮

If you only intend keeping the car another couple of years due to the location of it I’d probably just coat the chipped area with a rust converter and then touch it up with the correct paint. It probably won’t be noticeable there if the touch up Paints a good match.
