Grinding after starting ignition

Hi,

I have just bought a 2012 focus from sandicliffe with 44k miles. When starting the car starts and runs fine. If i turn the car off after a drive and turn the ignition on within an hourish of driving i will hear a grinding noise which ive read online can be the starter motor. Again once left for quite a while the car wont have this happen when starting the car or ignition. The auto stop start also does not work. Could this be down to the battery simply needing to recharge after being stood on the forecourt? Or do i need a new starter motor? I must note that grinding noise or not the car starts normal every time. Also the grinding is like a half a second or less noise.
