Water

Featured Replies

We have a Ford Focus Navigator 64 plate which is losing water. However there is no visible sign of a leak.  We have to top the water up after every journey at the moment. Any advice out there?

Thanks Al

Check to see if your driver foot well mat is damp. If so, you have a leak in your heater matrix system...

Or hairline cracks in your expansion tank

Which engine?

Their profile reg is a 1.0 ecoboost, but also says Fiesta.... 🤔

I would strongly suggest Alex gets this checked out ASAP.

Having to top up after every journey, with no visible signs of coolant, could also indicate a more serious problem than expansion tank cracking or heater pipe leakage.

If the engine is a 1.0 ecoboost, the head gasket may be failing or have developed a crack in the cylinder head.

thank you every one.

Just to confirm its a Focus Navigator Ecoboost. We have two cars Fiesta and Focus.

I would imagine some of the suggestions above would be rather expensive to fix. Just thinking about outlay against buying a new car.

Ok, what engine in the Focus then, as the reg in your profile is for the Fiesta.

Hello Alex. it is probably not a good idea to put your registration number in your profile information.

Perhaps amend it to just show 'Fiesta & Focus'

We still need to know the engine size.  EcoBoost could be 1.0, 1.5 or 1.6.  All have different common faults.

The issues I mention do affect the 1.0 ecoboost. Yes they would be expensive to fix, but it's certainly worth having the problem properly diagnosed. As others have said it could be a far less serious issue.

Personally I wouldn't use the car (needing daily top ups) for day to day travel as any leak could get worse and let you down badly. Good luck!

The 1.0 is very sensitive to any coolant loss.  It's really not worth driving it when you're having to top up so often.  As above, it needs a proper diagnosis as it could just be a split pipe somewhere, though the lack of any visual leak does suggest a more major internal fault.

Has it blown up yet? 😉
