Ford Focus Mk4 Turnier 2.0 Eco Diesel Automatic Gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Please could someone help me with information.

My Gearbox is probably a 8F40 but I search for the Ford OEM partnumber (P/N)?

Reason, I need to search Europe for a better used one, since mine has extensive issues.

Cheers

8F40 Fitted to Focus and Kuga only, just make sure you don't get the AWD version on the Kuga.

The Ford part number will be on a white label on the transmission somewhere make sure the replacement box is the same part number (but last letter can be higher)

What is wrong with your gearbox?

What is happening?

Hi Dave,

I´m a Novis and I will never be able to find the label you refer to.

I have the VIN nr if that might help.

Problem, my Focus has 125 000 km and shifting badly, up hill is somewhat problematic because of the transmission seeks friction, able to lock the torque from the engine.

Several hicks constantly, usually in low rpm and middle throttle.

You know what the gearbox is, it'll be on the top of the bellhousing

Have you changed the fluid?

  • Author

Car has been serviced by Ford up to 121 000km. I cannot say if the Oil is changed, you think it might help?

Yes change fluid. Ford never change fluid. They say sealed for life because life is after warranty is finished so they do not care.

It will say on label on gearbox what fluid to put in. It is probably MERCON LV or maybe MERCON ULV shop around on auto doc etc as you will get cheaper than FORD.

Fluid should be changed at 60,000KM it gets very hot and goes black, that is design of fluid, plus FORD cooling system is poor

Get 10 litres of Fluid, drain transmission, you will get 5 litres out. Refill with new fluid

Run for 500 miles and drain fluid again, you will now have 75% new fluid.

Get FORScan software and OBDLink EX cable

Perform "adaptive shift learning" reset

Ensure battery voltage is good, if not also change battery as this affects performance

You could also take it to automatic transmission specialist and pay for fluid flush, this is more money than do it yourself drain and refill but still cheaper than fitting a new transmission
