Inner track? Or rack?

Featured Replies

I have been searching for clunk a while now. Finally think Iv found it. Using the 9 / 3 check method I can feel and hear clunk. But outer rod ends are solid. I can't work out if it's coming from inner rods? Or worse, the steering rack!

How would I go about checking this?

Also even though I changed front struts n springs, front control arms, drop links. I am still getting a rough clunk on small bumps. Does subframe do this? I checked antiroll bar bushings and they still seem solid. I am gonna take another look at lower engine mount and fixings even though that was one of first jobs I did on this car just over couple year ago. But did have single mass around that time so worth a look.

I would be great full for any advice:

How to check steering rack and inner track rods.

How to check subframe

And any advice

Thank you

They haven't been changed but seemed pretty solid when I changed the struts and springs. Unless new springs can damage old mounts. But everything went back together fine and didn't look broken.

Daughter's Focus had a similar clunk a couple of years back and it WAS the top mount even though I had only changed it 6 months previously when I changed the spring 🙄
