Fiesta MK7 electronic door panel removal

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I need to remove the electronic panel inside the driver’s door (see photo) to access the door lock mechanism inside. Someone tried to break in so I need to remove the lock, however in trying to force the lock out of the door I think they ruined the mechanism that allows it to be unscrewed via the torx screw in the side of the door. I’ve tried unbolting the bolts that go around the perimeter but it still seems attached somewhere near the door lock. Has anyone successfully removed this panel?

The window regulator is on the other side.  You need to lower the window in order to unclip it from th regulator (probably through one of those foam circles).  Then raise the window and tape it to the top of the door.  Then lower the regulator again and that panel should come away.

Is it easier to just take the window out completely? When you say lower the regulator do you mean just put the window down with the switch? Thanks.

It isn't easier to remove the window completely as you'd have to remove the rubber guides as well.

Yes, use the window switch to move the regulator up & down.

Ok thank you will give that a go.

So I’ve managed to take out both 10mm bolts that hold the window in place. I can also see an orange pin that goes through the window (see photo). I’ve pushed the middle through but can’t see how to push the whole pin out of the way to release the window. Any ideas?

With that sort of plastic rivet, the whole centre has to be pushed through, then the 4 quarters can be pushed together to push that part through.

Yes the 4 quarters move freely in now I’ve pushed the centre through but I can’t seem to push the whole lot through - there seems to be resistance when I try pushing the 4 quarters through together…

Are you sure the centre has been fully pushed through?  That's the only thing that holds the 4 quarters apart.

Tbh, I can't see how you'd refit it from this side so I wouldn't worry too much about breaking it if that's the only option.

Just managed to do it with brute force! Window is now free but the electronics panel is still attached near the top right corner where the door lock mechanism is. I’ve seen a video where someone said to remove the door lock but I can’t so that as mine is broken! Hopefully there’s a way of getting this panel off without having to remove the lock?

Either use the brute force again...  Or release the other end first and try to 'slide' the panel away from the lock area as you pull it.

It just will not come away from that lock area. Everything else is loose but something is keeping it from coming off in that top right corner!

Yeah, there's something clipped on with moulded plastic clips in that corner.  (Seen top of this pic)  Should be able to slide it away from those.

Now that you have got that panel off it would be a good opportunity to apply some sound deadening material on the door skin so it doesn't sound like your banging a tin shed door every time you close it.

Nice one! Panel is now removed. Now trying to remove the mechanism which holds the door lock and latch as I think this will be what’s broken. There seems to be 2 clips which I’ve circled in red that are holding the whole mechanism to the door. Issue is the clips are marginally wider than the little gap they push through to lock in place so backing them out of the gap is a bit of an issue…

Stick something thin but strong in between the clip and cover.  Old style radio removal keys or a butter knife maybe?

Thanks so much for your help with this. Had to replace the door lock/ latch mechanism which was broken when someone tried to force the lock out of the door. New lock has now been fitted so success. After 2 full days of work on it I am now unintentionally an expert with these doors so for anyone who’s reading this thread and needs to anything, drop me a message😂. Btw the latch mechanism/ door lock is different for the facelift and pre-facelift models.
