unable to connect my phone to car

Featured Replies

hi all, I bought a a 19 plate mk 4 focus ST Line yesterday and I tried to connect my s21 ultra to the car via USB cable but it will say USB device connected then straight away it will say USB device disconnected and it will keep doing that repeatedly. has anyone else experienced this and if there is a solution.

Many Thanks

Dean

Have you tried a different usb cable? Android auto and CarPlay doesn’t like cheap or worn out cables. It has to make a good connection.

Have you tried both USB ports?

yeh I've tried the original charger cable but had to use a USB A to usb c adapter.ive tried both USB ports and both of them dont work

If you’re using the same adapter on both ports and different cables it could be the adapter?

reset the unit and wipe any saved devices then set up from scratch. some devices only like 1 or 2 devices connected. HTH

Never needed to use one myself but is that to convert USB Angalo to USB Cymraeg ? 🤣

Have you got a different phone that you can try ?

I went to look at a different focus st line on Thursday and what I did notice was when I opened the car the surround of the usb port was lit up blue but its not lit up on the one that I bought l. I don't know if that would have something to do with it?

Have you got any mate with a very good quality cable that will not need the adaptor, as has been said earlier the system can be VERY picky over cables.

The one that came with my phone never worked , but splashing out on a couple of higher quality ones and it is fine now.

I'll ask around and see if anyone has got one I could try. what phone do you have Mark if you don't mind me asking?

As a matter of interest what length is the cable you've been using? I bought a cheap USB A to C cable on my Tesco order to try my new S22 with our Vitara (the Focus is much too old to support such things as Android Auto or Carplay). I chose a 50cm cable and it worked fine. You might fare better with a shorter cable. Just a thought.

I've tried another 2 different phones and it's still the same so I'm starting to think there's no power going to the 2 usb ports

Many USB pens have a power indicator LED on them. A quick and simple test would be to put some music files on a pen drive and plug it in to the USB port. Check to see if the power light comes on, and can you play the music files.

Are you still using the adapter or have you tried with a single decent cable?

If there was no power I wouldn’t expect it to connect at all.

I had a Motorola G5S (50S) I cant remember, and it was that cable that didn't work, as my Pixel 6 came with a USB-c to USB-c I knew I'd need a different cable if I didn't want to loose the adaptor.. so got a couple of high quality cables, one for home one for car

The one I use in the car is this from Amazon  the main thing is you want a Data Sync cable not just a charge cable
