Alarm going off but didn't know I had one!

Featured Replies

I heard a car alarm after midnight last night but just cursed it and ignored it as I know I don't have one on my 05 Fiesta 1.4 Zetec.
My daughter comes in and says it's my car - sure enough the horn is sounding and the hazard lights are flashing. I unlocked + locked it using the remote fob and it stopped.
I don't have the handbook but from what I've read online the car comes with a Thatcham Cat 2 Immobiliser but no alarm. I bought it 2nd hand in April and this is the first time it's happened.

So do I have an alarm?? How do I find out please?

If the lights are flashing and the horn is sounding, then the car definitely has an alarm.

Have you had any dash warnings about doors open or bonnet open at all?

Thanks for replying, I checked when I got in the car this morning and there were no warnings. This is so weird!

There's a possibility that the previous owner installed an aftermarket alarm, however, as I type, I'll discount that as how would you have armed it LOL

Mine went off unexpectedly on two occasions

Once when my stuck-on Sat Nav dropped off the front windshield triggering the internal alarm sensors and once when a large bumble bee triggered them

Never had a problem since, so don't worry about it too much unless it happens again
