MK3 Focus Unlocking / locking issue & stereo cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have searched the forum for similar but can’t find any answers to my issues.

One is when unlocking or locking the car using the key fob, it takes several presses to either lock or unlock the car (like 3-20 presses). Happens with both fobs (their batteries are fine) but once in the car, start the engine first time. It has keyless entry, but I don’t use it because the sensors behind the handles don’t work (always been rubbish). It is like the signal is poor or out of sync?

The other issue is that the stereo randomly makes a loud noise and cuts the sound off completely. Happens very intermittently maybe 2/3 times a month. Display is still on, it almost sounds like a fuse has blown (but hasn’t). The only way to get it to come back on is to switch off and fully lock the car and then reopen. Any ideas would be welcome!

Sounds like the main car battery is going down

Thank you. Though the car battery is nearly new, otherwise I would think the same.

Make sure the batteries are good quality in the fobs, from experience I always recommend Energizer

Yeah I’ve put new Duracell in both… none the wiser. Not sure if it’s some sort of electrical fault with the car

Check the build date on the battery, it may have sat on a shelf for who knows how long, always buy from a high turnover seller, such as Euro car parts, then you know the battery hasn’t been sitting around for months, or even years.

Have you measured the voltage of the new 'Duracell' batteries ? They are a common source of problems. New out the packet they should be 3.30V and when dead they measure 2.99V or less.

Lots of counterfeit Duracell batteries in the market which is why most people avoid them for use in keyfobs.

Good point I don’t have a multimeter, but will swap them for different batteries to try
