Replace Fiesta MK6 (02-08) steering rack hard line pipes.

Featured Replies

One of the two steering rack pipes (hard lines that run along the rack) on my MK6 Fiesta (02-08 model) has corroded and is leaking.

I have trawled the internet and even tried my local Ford dealer, but it appears nobody sells just the pipes. I did find some on Ebay cheap, but they were in Lithuania and for LHD racks only. Does anyone know where I can get some from?

Used steering racks are available on Ebay and come with the pipes. But there is the chance the pipes will have corrosion.

So I was thinking of making some myself using cupro nickel pipe. What I would like to know is what diameter of pipe I should buy. I measured the pipes on the car using a caliper, but could not get a really accurate reading because of the tight space. I measured it approx 6.65mm diameter, so possibly ¼ inch. Also what type of flare do they have (SAE, DIN etc).

Finally, is there a way to replace them without dropping the subframe.
