Rough Ride/Rattles

Featured Replies

Iv recently bought a 17plate focus ST tdci with 19inch wheels. Is it me or is it a really rough ride on back and uneven roads?? Also on these wheels the road noise seems load aswell is this the tyre make or the 19inch wheels. Also does anyone get bad rattles from the dashboard/door card area?

Cheers Rich

Yes, sports suspension and 19" alloys are uncomfortable.  Some people find it acceptable, others don't.

Have you checked the tyre pressures?  You can try dropping them by a couple of PSI to improve the ride slightly.

I'll see on doors what psi is and drop them slightly see what it's like. Do they have different suspension compared to the 1.5tdci focus zetec as I had one of them before and that feels luxurious compared to this 🤣

Yes, ST suspension is much firmer.  Plus there's an extra couple of inches of tyre sidewall on Zetec alloys to soak up rough roads.

If ride quality is something you need, the ST isn't the trim for you I'm afraid.

I love the car don't get me wrong with the spec and how it looks but it's a harsh ride and seems to rattle inside compared to my previous 18plate focus 1.tdci. also on the 19inch I'm gathering what ever tyres I put on I'll still get tyre noise with them being such low profile?

Yeah, I'm well aware of this situation unfortunately.  Health issues mandate a smooth ride, so I've always ended up going back to 'granny spec' to get softer suspension and chunkier tyres.  Despite a constant desire for the ST or GTi trims.

I agree, tyre choice isn't likely to make much difference on 19s.

You could drop the wheel size to 18s though.   And  I've heard Eibach Pro springs can improve the ride on these.  If you could test drive one on 18s that might help your decision.
