Help with Ford Fiesta 2005 stalling! urgent!

Featured Replies

I've been having issues with my Ford Fiesta 2005 MK5 for a while now - for a while, it has been stalling frequently and not idling properly when started or slowing down, for example when you accelerate it goes back down to 500 revs for a while before going back up sounding rumbly and like it needs to stall, and often it does stall. I got a mechanic out who checked for air leaks etc and has confirmed no leaks but he isn't sure what the issue is. I've changed the spark plugs, and cleaned the throttle body-I'm thinking it may need a new idle control valve but unsure which part to buy as there seem to be 2 different ones, and can't seem to locate it on the car engine. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction or let me know if the valve is part of the throttle body and if the whole thing would need replacing?!

I have in total changed the ECU following mechanics advice, changed the coil pack, changed the spark plugs, checked for leaks, cleaned the throttle body.. starting to get really frustrated now!! I have attached a video for reference :)

Thanks in advance! Please help urgently as I need to try to pass my driving test 😂

There is a very specific reset procedure for the throttle body.

If you search on here you should find it.  Worth a try as it's free and will only take a few minutes.

the throttle body is a small valve just after the throttle body and allows air in to mix with the fuel when accelerating. these have been known to get clogged wtih carbon and stick open sometimes.

The idle air control valve is just past the throttle body in the intake, on the engine side of the throttle body. It is a small cylindrical tube about 1 1/2: in diameter and 4 inches long, bolted to the intake manifold with an electrical connector. please see youtube video for an accurate location and how too clean it.

I think the IACV is part of the throttle body on this model. I doubt it’s gone wrong. They’re pretty simple.

I had a similar problem to you. There’s a vacuum hose that parts of the breather system, which runs along the front of the engine at the top. It’s behind the intake connected to the head, and connects to the air side of the intake near the throttle body at its other end.

This hose deteriorates and splits, and can cause all sorts of running issues due to excess air entering the intake.

You can get a new one off eBay. Worth changing the ball valve at the same time. See image for the two parts you need.

Also, disconnect the battery, reconnect, turn the key to the II position (warning lights on, but engine not) and don’t touch ANYTHING (pedals, controls etc) for a couple of mins. This allows the ECU to relearn the throttle body correctly. I skipped this and the car ran like ***** and just wanted to stall. Doing the procedure above solved the issue.
