Water leak 2010 Ford Focus

Featured Replies

I've been chasing this for a while now, I just couldn't see where it was coming in. I've checked the plastic bit which is under the wipers which slides onto the bottom of the windscreen. I pulled up the carpets today I found this:

You can see just before the soundproofing sponge, two streaks of rust. I touched it and it was still very wet. I felt above that and it was also wet so water is getting in somehow. I tried to take some photos of above the rusty plate but they're not very good. I'll still add them below

Bad photos, possibly pointless.

Thanks in advance, I'd say this started about a month ago.

Happens when the parks parked after its rained!!

Managed to get a better picture of where the water is dripping from. I found water on the underside of the area marked with a red circle. I'm not sure if it's dripping down from higher up (probably is).

Does anyone know what the black box is? Just to the left of the red circle there's a metal clip.

Is this not a possible case of the pipes on to the heater matrix leaking?

Perhaps @StephenFord would be able to advise ?

Could have sworn I already responded to this, but it was another one of today's posts - leaks seem quite common...

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I don't think this is coolant, unless I don't have any antifreeze in the tank. I've tasted the water and it tasted of nothing.

I'll check the level of the coolant tomorrow and get back to you 👍

Do you use the air conditioning regularly?  If so, it's probably condensation.  It's totally normally for condensation to build up on the evaporator but it should be draining off underneath the car.

If you don't use the AC and it doesn't taste like coolant then I'd assume it's rain water.  Check the scuttle panel drains below the windscreen as they're likely to be blocked with leaf litter.

Hi, yes the air con is always on, even in the winter as it clears the windows. The drain was dripping a little bit yesterday when I was looking. I couldn't find how to get it off, I tried pulling but it wasn't moving, so I just left it as I didn't want to break it.

The scuttle panel were dirty, I've cleaned it all up but it doesn't want to sit beneath the window properly. I'm going to pour some water down the window later today, but I don't have a hose as I'm at work, so I might not see anything. Its definitely fresh water (not coolant) so maybe rain or condensation, I just need to find out which one it is. I'm leaning towards rain water as it seems to build up when the cars parked up and when it rained.

I think the problem has been found, I did look at this yesterday and the day before but nothing happened.

So I first of all put the scuttle back on as I was pouring water down the front window but nothing was coming through, I added a little bit of salt too, first to help rot the car, and secondly to see if I can taste the salt in the leak. It wasn't leaking yesterday at all as I didn't use the air con.

This evening I started the aircon and it was dripping from the drain, about 1 drip every 4-5 seconds. But also dripping in the car, much faster, if I turned the thermometer dial to hottest, the leak turned into a trickle, I put it back to fully cold, and it then slowed down. I tried to feel above the leak but no water was coming out. I then squeezed the rubber drain pipe a few times (Like I did yesterday and the day before) and the water ***** out and the leak in the car stopped.

So clearly I had a drain issue. Hopefully whatever was blocking it has now gone from the pipe.

I'll be able to find out tomorrow when I drive home tomorrow. I'll post again tomorrow night.
