Mk6 - Leaking gearbox end cover/gasket

Featured Replies

Got a small gearbox oil leak from the end cover of the gearbox on the passenger side of the car (RHD).

The end cover (7211) looks crusty and rusty, and probably needs changing.

But the gasket (7B343) doesn’t seem to be available as a part.

Was the gasket discontinued, and should I just use liquid gasket to replace it?

Anyone else had this issue and how did you solve it?

TIA.

Tempting.

As the gasket from ford is £42. It costs more than a new end case which is £26!

Wouldnt give me the part number for the gasket either. Robbing *****.

I reckon they're looking at the wrong part...

Again. It’s possible.

There’s two gaskets. And I think looking at parts and prices online, they’re quoting for the inner gasket, and not the outer one.

Yeah, that was my thought as well.

I did see on catcar that the end plate was supplied with a liquid gasket for the early Mk6s.  Though it doesn't have a separate part number from the plate itself so I'm not sure if they stopped supplying it or changed to paper or if it's just an error on the page.

I was going to say that I probably wouldn't trust a liquid gasket on a vertical surface that's going to have oil sat along the bottom edge permanently...but that's added a bit of doubt!

My preference would be to buy some gasket paper and cut your own gasket.  But that is just my opinion, and not based on any experience with this particular part.

It’s not an early car. It’s a 2008 plate (manufactured 07).

Im going to buy a new plate anyway. As the old one looks crusty and rusty.

Will check out the gasket (if there is one). And if I can’t emulate it, I’ll use a liquid.
