Confusing issue

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, hoping someone might be able to help with an issue I’m having with my Focus.

All seemed to be fine and then I had to get the clutch replaced a couple of months ago. Since then I’ve been having issues that have been gradually getting worse.

it started with a very subtle change in the sound of the engine while it’s ticking over, like a very faint squeal. Then I started to feel a vibration through the pedals that I don’t remember being there before the new clutch. Next was a loss of power. It doesn’t happen every time but sometimes it will struggle to reach 80kmph and it’s coupled with a jump when letting out the clutch after changing gear. The latest is that it seems to want to be in a lower gear than normal while driving - in situations where it would usually be happy in 3rd or 4th it now wants to be in 2nd or 3rd.

Hoping that someone might be able to suggest something. Thanks!

Just sounds like you have a bad clutch fitted. Take the car back to the garage that did the work and get them to check it.

Thinking the engine and gearbox have been separated for the clutch replacement, could it be the bolts weren’t tightened and the units are now moving in relation to each other?
my father had this happen on a classic capri many years ago and that was a Ford Main Agent.

main symptom was clutch adjustment with the 1963 car .
