Ford Fiesta Ghia Auto engine cutting out

Featured Replies

Apologies in advance but I'm very new to cars.

I have bought my 2005 Ford Fiesta only the other week. When driving the car my engine cuts off randomly and I loose the power steering assist which has happened twice so far. Sometimes I go a day or two without the issue but it seems to dangerous to go ignored. Anyone got any ideas on what could cause my car to just cut off whilst driving? I read online which stated if it happens randomly then it could be the fuel pump, however if that is the case I don't know how easily done it is to replace it with this model.

p.s if it is the fuel pump would I not be able to just un-clogg the fuel pump if it's only clogged or would a brand new one need to be fitted?

Apologies not required !! Welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

Let me give you some key advice since you are new to cars. Don't guess at what might be wrong when you have a fault. It will get very expensive very quickly if you do.

The engine randomly cutting out could be caused by more than a hundred possible problems, so unless you have a good reason to suspect the fuel pump I'd move that down the list for just now. Have you got a code reader ? If not you're going to need one. Normally I'd recommend using the software FORScan, but I'm not sure if it supports a 2005 Fiesta.

Engine size please, so we know what transmission we're talking about
