Where to safely drill drain hole in 2011 Focus wheel well.

Featured Replies

Is there a safe position to drill a drain hole in my Focus Titanium spare wheel well to drain water when filling with rain?

Almost all Ford (and most other makes) have factory drain holes in the wheel well. Some get rubber bungs put in them and many are a thin metal disc that are glued in with a sealer. Those 'glued in' discs can be knocked out from the underside of the car without the need to drill holes in the bodywork.

Surely you’d be better off stopping the leak.

You would need to get Sir Humphrey to do that 🤣

Vents behind the rear bumper on the mk3, is usually the culprit, check YouTube for videos on the solution. 👍🏻

Neither of these holes is anywhere near where the deepest water collects so it would seem sensible to drill a hole where it mostly settles and fit a removeable grommet.

Or fix the leak. 😁

Naturally that is the first thing to do and I have started looking but it's anything but obvious where it leaks. I suspect the right rear light cluster as I can make it move by pushing on it. The problem with that is I cannot get the holding bolts to tighten any more and I'm loath to squirt sealant round it as getting it off for a blown bulb could become a problem.

As I said, the most common leak problem, is the air vents behind the rear bumper, watch a video or two on YouTube about the problem and all will be clear and reasonably easy to fix.
