What’s wrong with my car

Featured Replies

hi I have a 2010 1.6 diesel focus 104000 miles it’s had its service a few weeks a go. No issues were reported. But it’s started showing some random issues. Warning light on dash saying power steering malfunction this only happens sometimes after a few minutes of driving and then goes off. Also it’s like for a second or so sometimes when driving the radio and dash all cuts out so no speed or anything show on the dash. then it’s will all power up again.  I have no problems starting the car at all and I’ve not noticed any problems at all the the power steering. I’ve booking it in the the garage. But does anyone know if this is a common fault of what it could be?

Probably the common instrument cluster bad solder joint problem. If you do a search for this there's lots of information on it.

Battery low voltage, if you know the battery is old, change it.

Or, as @mjt says, suspect cluster fault

As stated, your car is of a generation when in the hope of saving the dolphin, they used lead free solder. This worked great for a few years, but over time, it deteriorates to the point that it causes all sorts of electrical glitches. Think of it as the auto industry answer to aerated concrete!   There is a whole industry now in operation to re solder these clusters, at about £60-£80. Do a search on 'Ford cluster repair' on Ebay for the service...
