Either Gearbox or Clutch issue

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

A family member has a 2008 Fiesta Zetec Blue TDCI (Last of Mk 6.5) and long story short she can only get 2nd gear in it. It came on very suddenly.

What does everyone think? Is it Clutch or Gearbox. I haven't seen it in action and the car has just been left at her mechanic so just asking for a quick heads up.

Also not sure if it's repairable or she should just get rid as she has had it for nearly 7 years.

Thanks in advance.

Well without further information my 'guess' would be that it is the gear selector linkage. Fairly quick and easy to repair.

Even if it is the clutch or the gearbox it's worth repairing, but, as @unofix says, it could just be the linkage

I’ve just had the same problem on an SMax after a clutch change funnily enough, the solution (at least for me) was to pull the orange tab up with a flathead and put the gearbox into forth then push the tab back in. All gears now present and correct and 1 absolutely chuffed person.
