Focus 2018 ST-Line X - Probably a stupid question

Featured Replies

As the title says, hopefully a stupid question...

First time owning a Ford, and I liked the look (and the price) of the car I purchased.

When purchasing, didn't really know anything about the "ST Line" etc, other than it is made to look similar to the ST.

My question is, is the "X" version I have been tweaked to make it sound closers to an actual ST??

I get the 'grumbles' upon acceleration in each gear, which I know an ST would have -- so I'm guessing it was an add on it make it be similar to the better model?

The X just gives you a bit more equipment as standard.

I'm not aware of the St-Line having any sound enhancement.

If you've got the 1.0 or 1.5 ecoboost, you're probably just hearing the natural 3 pot warble.

Thanks @alexp999

Yes, it's just the 1.0 eco model. Nothing special. Just grabbed it because of the extras.

It just sounds like it wants to make a noise for itself, making me think it was an 'add on'

Sounds like the standard 3 pot 'thrum'.  Very noticeable if you're used to driving 4 cylinder engines.

Just to round off this thread a tangential observation from me.

The depot that I work from is on the flight path of planes as they come in to land. Excellent location for a place to work from but terrible to have your house there.

I have worked there for over 5 years and get used to all sorts of planes coming in. I never bother to look up as the are on their final approach these days, even for the Airbus 380.

Then a week or so ago this smaller than average propeller plane was heading in and it sounded in trouble. The note of the engine was definitely not right and could have been misfiring on a cylinder or two for all I knew.

It passed overhead and must have landed OK.

I made a mental note and hit my favourite search engine (not google).

It was one of those rarities, a plane flying backwards, well actually the propellers were behind the wing pushing the plane rather than the conventional way in front of the wing pulling it forward. There are not many around. A Piaggio  well known for it's unusual build and louder than expected noise.

Perhaps it needs tweaks to make it sound closer to an actual plane.
