Mk4 1.5L auto shuddering uphill

it’s a 1L hybrid 108bhp. Pretty lame really. Especially off the mark.

Just checked 0-60 on the Octavia and it just scrapes 10 seconds which really isn't bad for a car of that size.  Obviously not comparable to the 180bhp Focus though lol.

The Octavia is just a golf with a boot and Skoda badge though*

*And better interior 😛

By coincidence a friend of mine took delivery of a 23 plate Skoda Superb yesterday. It’s a 1.4L hybrid, over 200bhp.
About the Octavia, I can’t figure out how to switch off the lane keeping thing or the stop start. I think it’ll be somewhere in the touch screen. It’s got wireless CarPlay which turned the screen pink earlier on !! Also had to buy a usb c to lightning cable for charging my old iPhone 7 , I think the car has wireless charging but my phones too old.

How are you finding the regenerative braking on the 1.0 eTSI?  I found it too harsh on the Focus 1.0 MHEV but haven't driven a VAG equivalent to compare.  There was a Leon PHEV near me with the same 1.4 hybrid as your friend has but that always seemed very jerky at slow speed whenever I saw it.  (Can't really be driver error with an auto box).  Put me right off those...

I don't use anything more than the radio for infotainment so no good asking me about phone connections lol.  Lane keeping is probably in the driver assistance menu.  I suspect SS is purposely difficult to switch off.  I didn't find it a problem on a 2.0 TSI DSG Leon though, it could be controlled when approaching a roundabout by a gentle press of the brake to stop the engine cutting out.  Only thing I didn't like about it is that it needed a throttle tap to pull away after it had cut, and DSG isn't exactly smooth pulling away...I'd prefer the gentle slip of a torque converter in that situation.

Tbh I’ve no idea what’s going on half the time. First hybrid I’ve driven. Breaks are spongy , it sometimes says to take foot off the accelerator, sometimes taking foot off the revs drop to zero. So ICE is off at that point but whether it’s using the battery instead I’m not sure. It’s definitely a case of setting everything you’ll need before starting your journey. Sports mode though is a flick of the gear selector. My pals auto gear selector is a stick , don’t know if that means it’s a different auto box 🧐

The focus has 11 months lease left. If I get another it’ll be because they’re cheap but also fun to drive.

As far as I know the 1.0 is only a mild hybrid so can't run on battery alone.  It does use a different gearbox to the 1.4 PHEV.

That's my understanding also. From what I've read it does seem quite keen to coast with the engine off which sounds like what Alex is experiencing.

Got an email health check video from the dealership. It’s the gearbox, says they’ll need to take it to a specialist 🧐

Looks like you'll be stuck with the fat bottomed Golf for a bit longer then!

Must admit it doesn't say much when you go to a Ford dealership and all of their Fords are broken so they have to supply you with a VAG courtesy car instead.

It's strange that it was ok in Sports Mode🤔

It may have been in a different gear, no easy way of knowing since it's an auto.

It was ok but after replicating where it usually happened a few times , it was shuddering a little in sport mode also.

They’ve given me a Skoda Octavia from europcar. Was impressed for one day. A piece of s*it it is. Had a “call workshop sos” message already! Touchscreen is dangerous imo. It’s been glitchy from the start but it’s stuck on a ‘loading settings’ image just now. The screen is wider than sync3 but the on screen buttons are smaller and less responsive. Struggling to pair my iPhone Bluetooth connection too 😠 smh

Yes, but it must have been in that same Gear at other times while driving whether in Sports Mode or not, which is what I find strange.

See VAG that’s VW, Seat , Audi ,Skoda (and the rest). Do they all have the same infotainment system/software as Skoda?
I’ve googled this and can’t find an answer.

I very much doubt it. That would be like expecting all Fords to have the same version of Sync.

Hi. I was looking if someone had this issue and I bumped on this topic. I observe exact same problem in 2020 focus 1.5 ecoblue manual transmission. It starts to shake when going uphill at motorway speed especially when I try to accelerate. It begins with sun visor shaking and then escalating to whole body. Does not seem to come from any specific place like certain wheel. I eliminated wheels imbalance. My mechanic said today that this may be joints or half shafts bou cannot say definitely at this moment. He recommended that I should wait until problem gets mor visible. Anyway, it seems that we face same issue with completely different engin and transmission. I will watch this topic closely and also let know when I solve my issue

I think because it’s different engine  and transmission probably means it can’t be the same issue. Is it possible yours is misfiring?

Yeah but symptoms are surprisingly similar. Different engine and transition may also mean that problem is with drive train or wheels. I Hope we will find out soon.
