2013 Focus 1.0 ecoboost issue

Featured Replies

Heya, 2013, 1 litre focus ecoboost. Got an overboost issue P0234:22-6C. Any ideas? ALso cat issue (turns eml on, not limp mode though)

Having changed the vacuum pump i am now getting

P132:21-6c

The cat also is throwing up

P0420:09-64

I'm guessing that was a big, big job. It's taken 5 months 🤣

Can I confirm it is P132 rather than P0132?

Was the vac pump brand new or used?  If used, it's worth double checking the one way valve hasn't failed.

Cat efficiency is common on these now.  As it's 10 years old, the cat probably is out of acceptable tolerance for the PCM.  It'll probably still pass MOT as they have a larger tolerance.  Though it'll fail for the EML unless you can keep that cleared during the MOT.

Been working and just resetting the DTC on the module each week.

Definitely P132B. So a new cat?

Yes, new cat is probably the answer for the P0420 code.  But given the cost of them, I wouldn't condemn it until it fails MOT personally.  P0132 would have been for the lambda sensor, which would make sense with a cat efficiency code.  However, it seems like the two codes you have are not linked.

P132B is likely to be an electronic fault with the boost solenoid on this engine.  It's mounted next to the vacuum pump.

Thank you. Do you have a part number?

Had a thought. If the cat is on its last legs and could be blocking, could that cause back pressure which triggers the turbo boost issue?

The boost solenoid is only available from Ford along with all the vac pipework and bracket so no Finis number for it separately.

It's this part though, and you can check the engineering number from the one on your car.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126055324294?

Finis part number for the cat looks like 1873837.

A blocked cat could create boost issues from back pressure.  Though I'd expect underboost rather than overboost in that scenario.

If catalyst needs to be replaced then you could choose a 200 cpsi one euro 6 or euro 5 (if this model is euro 5).

There are aftermarket solenoids cheaper than the original one.

Is check engine light always on?

No the EML isnt on at all - just goes into limp mode. Starts off fine enough , but will lose power. Checked the vacuum thingy and its still `ok`

How?. When I broke my old solenoid open I found a split in the internal silicone diaphragm.  The fault didn't clearly show up using my vacuum tester.

Probably means the one way valve in the vac pump rather than the boost solenoid.

Hello all you lovely people 😄

Cat problem is solved by putting a replacement - BM Cats, terrible fit, but on now and the issue is solved.

However still getting P132:21-6c from the turbo. Tried a different vacuum pump , and boost solenoid and still error. Lastly had the system vacuum tested and the actuator arm is hardly moving.

Do the wastegates get stuck / seized or could it be the mechanism (diaphragm etc) itself?

Have you disconnected the actuator to check the wastegate arm directly?  Perfectly safe as long as you don't adjust the length of the arm.

Usually the wastegate gets loose and rattles, so I reckon the fault is the actuator in this case.  There's a spring in the actuator that should push it firmly once vacuum is removed.  If it's sticking in the open position, that spring may have failed.

Thank you, will check it out.  Got a new one today, P2626:00-64. ***** cars 😞

aha that was a bad 02 sensor (amazon rubbish), a new shiny Bosch one worked.

However, the cat is loose ish. The old one came with a bracket which wouldn`t prize open  (cut the old flange off the old cat to remove it) , and i cant seem to get open it for the life of me to put it on the new one. Rattling in 1st and when cold. Good new though, fuel economy is better 😄

Have you checked the wastegate arm?  If that's physically not moving far, the sensor readings will be out of spec.

If the wastegate works fine with the new vac pump, then the boost sensor wiring should be checked next.
