2019 1.0 125 focus st line

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

after being away for 3 years, I’ve purchased another focus. A 2019 1.0 125 st line with 17k on the clock in desert blue.

reading the first page of this forum has me worried. Are the 1.0 engines really that bad? Have they not been refined from the earlier ones?

collect it in Friday and looking forward to getting back into it.

Also, any easy mods to do with Carista etc?

thanks.

Mark

Mk4 Focus uses the revised engine with a cam chain instead of a wetbelt.

It still uses a wetbelt for the oil pump so always use the correct oil and never an engine flush.

The chain engine is a bit noisier and more rattly than the old engine, I wouldn't say it's any more refined.

Revised is the word I was looking for rather than refined 🙂

When you say an engine flush, what do you mean by that (apologies for a silly question)

It seems the correct oil is 5w20? They’re also on the long service 18k or two years, I presume it’s best to get it serviced every year?

I change the oil myself every 6 months regardless of mileage.

Bit overkill but easy to do for £50.

What engine have you got Scotty? 1.0 125 too?

155 MHEV but same parts etc.

Engine flush is an upselling con used by garages.  It basically a detergent that gets added to the oil just before draining it.  The idea is to 'flush' out any muck in the system.  But that detergent attacks the wetbelt material.

The oil must meet the full Ford standard, not just the basic 5w20 weight.

Two years/18k servicing is probably fine if you're doing long distances for a commute.  If you're doing a lot of short, cold journeys or sitting in a lot of traffic then I would suggest a yearly oil & filter change, but it doesn't need to be a full service that time.

The oil pump wetbelt is currently recommended to be replaced at 10 years or 150k assuming it doesn't break sooner than that.

Thank you Tom!! Really appreciate it and I’ve taken comfort from the above.

Filter looks wrong.

The picture is for "illustration purposes only" as they usually say 🤣

The oil filter for these engines has been superseded and so there are two versions, old and new.

This one has cropped up several times.

Looking at service invoices which I still have for my 2018 1.0, the earlier ones quote 1751529, the last couple quote 2468342.

Your MHEV needs the shorter filter, the OP's won't be MHEV in 2019.

*EDIT* - Apologies, there are two very similar threads today lol!

The chain driven engine with oil filter at the front uses the shorter filter.  So on a 2019 FOCUS that will require the shorter filter.  Part number 2207993.

Bit confused 🙂

so the filter in question that I need will be 2207993?

Yes...I think!

You can see the oil filter on the chain engine just by lifting the bonnet so I would recommend visually checking your own car to confirm.  I'm 99% sure that's the right one though.

The oil is the same for both engines so that's definitely correct.

I'm not surprised.😀 There are two threads on ecoboost oil filters active today. My post quoted above by @unofix is from the other thread, and concerns the earlier wet belt engine in a Fiesta, not the later one in the Mk 4 Focus which I understand uses a different (shorter) filter.

Thanks everyone. Next question, the car has the older sync 3 and I’m hopefully looking to update it to 3.4. I’ve put my vin into the ford website and it indicates this is possible and can be done via usb, WiFi or via a service. Is doing it usb, basically plug and play? Ive also got a Mac rather than a laptop does that much difference?

Mac seems to make a mess of unzipping the download. Might be worth using a 3rd party program to unzip the download.

Definitely the shorter filter on the 125 non mhev as I changed the original on my mums mk4 last month.

2207993 on Ebay.

Collected the car last night and very happy with it.

However, one of the rear windows is causing some first world problems.

it goes down one touch fine, but one touch doesn’t work on the way up from driver switch or the switch on its own door.

Any ideas?

Also there is a small storage unit behind the brake switch and it looks like it should’ve had like a small mat in it (see third party one attached) Can anyone confirm if this is the case.
