Ford Fiesta Edge Mk6 - Wing mirror seals and rust

Featured Replies

My daughter has just bought a Ford Fiesta Edge Mk6 2010.

I noticed that the seals around the wing mirrors are rubbish/non-existent and there is a noticeable gap.

I removed the wing mirrors and wasn't surprised to find rust.

Is this a common issue or poor design ?

Is there a way to fix the problem, other than bodging it with silicone sealant ?

2010 = Fiesta Mk7 not 6

Not a common problem that has been mentioned on the forum. Are they the original factory fitted DOOR mirrors or are they aftermarket replacements ?

Scrape away the rust then slap on a layer of thick grease all over the rusty areas, grease stops all rust.

Thanks unofix

I always get confused whether its a Mk6 or Mk7 !

Wikipedia shows that the UK Mk versions are one ahead from other countries, so confusingly a Mk7 in the UK is a Mk6 everywhere else !

I assume they are original door mirrors ?

The part number in the picture is 4201-012 and when I google the part number the results come back as a genuine Ford part.

But with such a large gap between the mirror and the door its obvious that water will get in.

The inner panel, that the mirror mounts to, could be bent from a previous mirror being hit.

Try hitting the inner mounting panel in so the mirror sits closer to the door skin as it's tightened
