CD Navigation unit problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone  hope somebody can help with this it is driving me nuts. I have bought an early 2011 ford focus estate. Trying to connect my phone by bluetooth is causing a problem. I have connected it once and had it working, but now it will not connect. I have researched the internet and i cannot even find a picture of mine. It is original. I can see ford audio in my BT device list but cannot connect to it with my iPhone. When I press the phone button on the unit it goes to the BT screen but the highlighted field just keeps cycling round and I cannot choose either active phone or de-bond phone. I did check when I first got connected and there were no other phones.I should say it is a non touch screen unit.

Many Thanks Mike

Hi Mike. Iphones are a nemesis of Bluetooth. My advice get an android phone.

Iphones have a different Bluetooth system which a lot of cars don't like.

Try, under i in bluetooth menu, on your iPhone, telling the phone it is a car stereo and see if that helps

Hi , DaveT70, yes that is what it is on. what puzzles me is that it connected in the first instance and worked, but second time no. I can't even connect with a usb, I do not get the chance to choose it , all the options disappear straight away, but thanks for trying to help

Does your car have satnav. If so does that work?

Does the headunit play radio on DAB and FM etc?

Can you play a music CD?

Have you tried a mp3 player in the USB?

If all the above work then perhaps your phone has an issue.

If either all or some of the above doesn't work then the unit itself has a fault.

I'm not sure if Forscan can pick up if a Bluetooth module is down or not but it's worth a try.

Bluetooth modules do have a habit of failing in all models of cars.

@alexp999 I've noticed you put a confused emoji for a post I made.  What is it you find confusing?

Just for your information. Back in the 80's and 90's I was a semi pro car hifi installer. I came across Bluetooth issues more times than I care to remember. Fact. IPhone Bluetooth has inherent issues with car Bluetooth modules because the modules used are android friendly. There are However a few cars that accept iPhone Bluetooth but I don't know which they are.

Hooe that clears your confusion.

Hi jazzman, sorry the emoji must have been by mistake.I have found out now that if i connect phone by usb the phone sees ford audio and gives me a pairing code which i put in but the phone does not pair. it is a three month old iPhone 13 mini

Bluetooth is an industry standard, Apple use the same qualcomm and broadcom radios as Android phones.

There might be certain features that work better on one OS than the other, but the underlying technology is the same.

And I was an avid Android user a lot longer than I've been using an iPhone 🙂

I have had more issues with new Android devices not working on old bluetooth enabled cars.

Hi everyone. I have now tried the bluetooth on other devices and it works just fine, so my conclusion is that the phone is ok. The car unit is a sd card satnav with radio and cd. everything works fine on its own . I am getting a sync code and putting it in phone but it will not pair, I have reset unit to factory condition and no good. I have joined by usb and that will not let me play mp3s on the unit. I have tried to get a firmware update but it is coming up as none available.

Time to give up I reckon , many thanks to you all

Oh dear Roger. Out of interest. How long have you had the car? Looks like the headunit is faulty.

@alexp999 I've actually been out of the car hifi game for over a decade. Technology has come on leaps and bounds in that time. If what you say about Bluetooth now an industry standard and that apple and android use the same communication system then its about ruddy time.

i have had the car about 6 months

Can you see other phones still bonded to the system?

If so delete them first, then try reconnecting.

Also, try disconnecting the battery negative, then positive, cover the poles on the battery then touch the positive and negative cables together and hold for about 10 minutes. If they don't reach each other get some wire to bridge them.

See if that helps

Good ideas Dave but no need to connect the positive and negative leads for 10 minutes. Just 10 seconds is all that's needed.

there are no other bonded phones. As i see it the biggest problem is that when I have BT setting page on the screen, the highlighted field just cycles round all the time . The puzzling thing is that this was working when I first paired the phone, but when I returned next day I have this problem.

As for connecting the positive and negative leads , I am a bit dubious about this. I am not doubting your knowledge but when I bought the car I was advised by two different mechanics not to disconnect the battery as it would affect the computer and the way that the car runs.

It's fine, do it.

Disconnect negative first and cover battery pole so it can't make contact

Hi I've been told that removing the fuse at the back of the unit is the same as removing battery cables, is this right do you think. Here is the unit. It is a ford LS RSN satnav unit otherwise known as a Blaupunkt Travelpilot FX. is anybody familiar with this unit if so do you know what the blue connector is to the back of the unit, i cannot shift it, must be some sort of clip. I cannot see a fuse on the unit.

Blue connector is the GPS aerial lead.

There is no fuse on your unit, they were only fitted to the very early models and then done away with on later models.

Would disconnecting the main loom plug in the unit do the same trick?

Hi , I have just discovered something. If I turn unit on without ignition ,unit says it will work for an hour before turning off. The thing is that in this mode it works perfectly , but if I turn ignition on and start up bluetooth and usb connection is lost, any ideas?
