Reach/Rake S/Wheel adjustment [58, Fiesta, 1.25 style]

Featured Replies

Does my Fiesta have the in/out adjustment on the steering wheel?

It definitely has up/down, but either I am not being forceful enough or it doesn't have in/out adjustment but I just can't get it to move in/out. Manual says it does and the gap between the wheel and dash suggests the wheel is 'out' - maybe fully.

Damn, would be useful if it did move in/out

Just missed it unfortunately. It became standard on the Mk 7 introduced late 2008.

Hmmm

Fusion Owners Manual (P31) shows adjustable in both height and in/out.

Catcar shows a pre 2004 part, and a post 2004 column assembly.

OP - What does your owners manual state.

When it stops raining I will look in our 2007 Fiesta and 2010 Fusion......

Sun was out !

Fiesta Owner's Manual also suggests adjustable in both height and in/out.

But both cars will only adjust for height, and brochures for those models only refer to tilt, ie height.

Owner's Handbooks are telling porkies !!!!

It does indeed mention that feature in the manual. There is the usual caveat that not all features are on each version. Puzzling! Any other Mk 6 owner able to comment?

ADJUSTING THE STEERING WHEEL

Image Shown Without Description
WARNING   WARNING:  Never adjust the steering wheel when the vehicle is moving.

Release the locking lever to adjust the height of the steering wheel and its distance from the driver.
Return the lever to its original position to secure the wheel.

Having had 5 Fiesta Mk6 in the family between 2004 and 2008 the only one that had a reach adjustable steering column was my Mothers 1.6 Ghia Auto. Although it was me that ordered it brand new back in the day I don't remember if I ordered it as an option, or if the car just came with it.

Even visually from my photo, it appears that the wheel is fully out. The driving position for a 6ft like me does feel slighly cramped, like I want to move the seat back away form the wheel but the seat is as far as it'll go. No problems with this in my 2011 Zetec S or the two Mk3's ive driven over the years. I'll ask the original owner, maybe there is a spacer been put in? Seems odd that if you are going to allow adjustment, you only allow it in one direction

With both a 2007 Fiesta, and a 2010 Fusion Titanium parked on the drive, I cannot adjust the steering wheel for reach in either of them. (The Fiesta 1.6 petrol Zetex S came with a full house of options.)  This may be of course because I never tried to until I first read this post !

The two catalogues I have for 2006 Fiesta, and 2009 Fusion do not list reach adjustment as a feature, or an option.  (Instead of shopping at Tesco, I will have to go to Waitrose, and see If I can find any Ghia owners....)

I had a 2002 LX and a 2008 ST.  Don't remember either having reach adjustment.

Looking again, yes, it does appear so.
