Ford fiesta 2011 pats error 13

Featured Replies

Hi, looking for some advice. Over the last month or two ( since leaving the lights on, battery dead and me jump starting the car), I am getting an intermittent pats error: 13. No crank. Same is happening on both keys and have replaced the batteries in both fobs. My question is really related to the battery though. Going into the hidden menu and checking the voltage, it reads 10.6 at rest and 13.5 once running. Could the low voltage be a cause of the pats error?

thanks in advance.

Waste of time changing the key batteries as they're nothing to do with the PATS immobiliser part, they're for the locking/unlocking circuitry. The PATS side is the embedded chip in the key that 'talks' to the ECU when inserted in the ignition keyhole.

Anyway, to your query: your main battery sounds dead! Even when flat it should read 12 volts. When fully charged more like 12.6volts. It sound like you have a dead cell. The electronics needs at least 12 volts else it won't function properly so you'll get unpredictable issues. Try charging your battery on a battery charger, but 10 volts really means new battery time.

Forget about 'hidden menus' they are completely a waste of time and totally inaccurate. The only way to measure your car battery voltage accurately is with a digital multimeter. If you ran the battery totally flat then there is a good chance that it will never fully recover no matter how much you charge it.

Just an update. New battery, still getting pats error 13. Local garage plugged it in. Intermittent bcm fault. They recommended Ford dealer. Been there a week and they still can’t find the fault..just keep saying they are getting a bcm fault and they are trying to isolate it.

Update. So been with Ford for just under a month. They first traced all the wiring as they thought it was related to short as it was intermittent. They then replaced IPC after not finding any wiring issues. Fault persisted… Then replaced BCM but now it won’t allow them to program new keys to the car or rather allows programming of central locking but not to start the car apparently … absolute nightmare. 😢

Another update. So having replaced the bcm, replaced the icp once. The problem persisted. Ford specialist then remotely connected and suggested the icp was faulty. They then replaced that again. Problem persisted. They have check all wiring for breaks, checked grounds and replaced key transponder. Problem still persists. If anyone has any suggestions on other things to suggest please help. Car has been with Ford for 2 months now….

Ignition switch?  Just a guess

Looking for some more advise,
I have had no end of trouble. The car originally went in for no start, PACS 1-3 error. After changing BCM (then dealer saying it was not bcm they put old one back). They changed the icp twice, and eventually the transponder on key barrel. Car then starts fine. Got car back. Then icp started randomly switching off while driving, back to dealer. They changed the icp again. Then wipers stopped working intermittently. Back to dealer, reflashed icp and synced comms, said it was fixed. Got the car back. Wipers then stopped working altogether. Back to dealer. They claimed the wiper motor had seized. Changed motor and linkage, wipers still didn't work. Then claimed the wiring had a break. After 2 days they said they found a plug unseated, reseated it. Got the car back. Last week my son driving on the motorway in heavy rain, wipers stop working. He nearly crashed!!! and wipers now only working intermittently again. Feel like they just trial and error, and every time at my expense. After spending 2 grand on what started as a no start - which the engineer said came down to the transponder to now having broken wipers and my son nearly crashing on a motorway. Im not mechanical at all so felt like the dealer was the best option. Contacted Ford UK and they have basically said the car is out of warranty so they wont do anything and I need to take it up with the dealer, absolutely shocking customer care, and I feel like the dealership/engineer working on the is seriously incompetent. As it stands this has been going on since December 2023, Im 2000 out of pocket, original problem resolved but now mysteriously new electric faults every time I get the car back.
Not sure what Im expecting here but if anyone has any advise I would greatly appreciate it.

I think you need to count your losses and W.B.A.C.com it

......and that is a surprise to you because ?

Either get rid of it to "we buy any old wreck.com" or take it to a different garage.

(🫰.🤔 Would you be prepared to try an auto electrician.?

Can't seem to delete the emoticons.
