Rejected faulty MHEV fiesta - what is the best petrol Fiesta

Featured Replies

I've rejected my Ford Fiesta ST Line X 155bhp MhEV due to an oingoing fault. I'm looking for another Ford but I want to avoid the MHEV cars. Help please. What is the best petrol Fiesta? I've driven a petrol 1 litre recently and hated it. I'm used to having some acceleration. I'm thinking about an ST.

Other than the non-turbo 1.1 75/85ps, the only Mk 8/8.5 Fiesta that is not 1.0 and/or MHEV is the 1.5 ST, so I guess you've answered your question!😀

Lol. The dealer doesn't think I'll like an ST. I don't know why. Thank you for the reply. I supected that was the case but after spending two years with a car that sleeps all day everyday I never want to see a mild hybrid ever again 🙂

Have you had any issues with your ST? I'm test driving an ST2 later this week.

No, I've had no faults at all, so far. The main niggle with the later models is that the spec was progressively reduced towards the end (e.g. no powerfold/heating on the door mirrors), which I and others have posted about elsewhere.

Usual reason why people don't get on with the ST is the ride, which could be regarded as "firm", lol. You're wise to take a test drive so try and find some less than perfect roads (not difficult these days) and see what you think.

Not sure what age car you're looking at, but the original Recaro seats can be a bit tight, the Ford Performance branded seats in the facelift Mk 8.5 are a bit more forgiving.

Insurance can be pricey depending on age/experience so check that out before you buy.

If looking at an ST-2 the Performance Pack is a sought after extra, mainly for the limited slip diff. (It was standard on ST-3 from around late 2019.)

Be aware that if you drive the car infrequently you're likely to have problems with the battery on any Mk 8, (see the many threads on here on the subject) so be prepared to invest in a "smart" charger if you haven't already got one and give the battery regular top ups.

Enjoy the test drive and let us know how you get on.😀

Deep sleep issues aren't restricted to MHEV's.  They seem to be standard for any modern Ford unfortunately.

Yes, as mentioned elsewhere, my own driving pattern doesn't suit the parameters of Ford's* charging systems and I've already given the ST a couple of sessions on the charger.

I got used to it as the "new normal" with my previous (also non-MHEV) Mk 8.

(* To be fair, I've seen the same complaints on other makes forums also, so it seems to be a general issue nowadays.)

Yes, the current batch of cars all seem to suffer from deep sleep/dying batteries. Seems that scraping the barrel to lower emissions is producing cars that are no good for anyone who doesn't use them for a decent journey every day, such as us wrinklies. That's why I'm hanging on like grim death to the Mk2.5 - petrol so no DPF, no GPF, no BMS. It can be left weeks and still start first turn of the key.

Having said that the Vitara's been sat unused since the end of October and fired up straight away today . Still, it's a fairly basic model so doesn't have lots of fancy features that need to be turned off to save the battery.

Oh no. I'm fed up with the dreaded deep sleep mode 😞

Both our early Mk8 Fiestas (ST-Line & ST) seem to be fine, battery wise. I’d hazard a guess it’s due to them both not having the remote services crap fitted. Both on original batteries too after five odd years.

My fiesta has had three new ford batteries followed by one larger capacity diesel battery. The diesel one managed 24 hours before the auto stop failed, keyless entry failed and the car went back to sleep every day. The dealer has been very good so far. My rejection is in progress and has been accepted.

That certainly sounds like a fault, rather than the usual battery low charge scenario we see on here. Good to see your dealer is being helpful.
