Focus mk2 central locking pulsing

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2011 Focus 1.6 sport. I have a problem in that the central locking is pulsing. When it is parked it does not matter if it is locked, double locked or unlocked. After about 20 minutes, you can hear a low beating noise. Initially I thought that someone was playing music and I could hear a faint sound of a bass beat. But after a couple of hours, I realised it was coming from the car. When I hold my hand against the doors, I can feel the pulsing. If I press the lock or unlock on the key fob it stops. But leave it 20 minutes and it starts again. It does not happen when driving.

Can anyone offer some suggestions of what this could be or what I could try please.

Many thanks, Kenny

It could be a problem with the BCM or with one of the Door Modules. You really need to use FORScan and see what DTC's have been logged.

PS. Does your profile need updated, it says you have a Fiesta 2014 ? 🤔

That is a screen grab of the DTC's from FORScan. There are no error codes.

Any idea what I should try next?

That's unfortunate that there is no meaningful DTC for the locks.

I note you have a comms error in the instrument cluster U1900-60 which could be causing the Canbus to not fully shut down causing a recycle of the modules about every 20 minutes. Usual problem is dry solder joints very common on a 2011 Focus.

The other comms error is for the rain sensing wipers but I doubt that has anything to do with the door lock problem.

Just as a test, if you remove the Fuse for the central locking does the 'pulsing' stop? You will need to use the metal key blade to lock the drivers door.

@unofix Thanks for your help on this. I got it fixed. I realised that this had only just started happening after I installed an Apple CarPlay head unit. So I pulled it out and re-installed the original Ford unit. Problem solved. Not ideal though, as I would have like the Apple CarPlay function.

Have exactly the same issue with mine.

You lock the car and 20 or so minutes later and modules go to sleep then android head unit wakes car up and starts a booming sound every few seconds. Mine was coming through the speakers though.

Ive also ended up putting standard sony unit back in,such a shame as one i fitted was really good feature and sound wise.

also tried taking out a few cables on harness but didnt help it so sending unit back.
