Fiesta Mk6 Dipped beam not working

Look at the circuit diagram I posted Dec 23, try swapping the 2 relays R243 and R244 over.

R243 controls dip beam, R244 controls main beam.

I did try that to start with, the high beam relay swapped over with low beam and still working correctly as should. I can also hear the real clicking in and out aswell.

Guys, you'll never believe but I've sorted it!  I looked at the diagram above and went through it again.  Had the indicator stalk out, the relevent fuses, checked the connectors... Then back to the ma

Ok, so I bought a secondhand switch module from eBay.  Didn't go for the cheapest from a breakers, but bought one that looked cosmetically good from a low mileage car, still less than £25 posted 1st c

  • To add to my previous comments on this post.. Turns out the left hand indicator switch was at fault. I could engage the high beam but after that there was no way i could disengage it back to the

On the 2008 Fiesta Mk6, I'm fairly sure that the low beam head lights were controlled directly from the GEM and not via a relay as they had been on earlier models.

The fact you have noticed other issues/problems confirms to me that the fault is with the GEM (later called BCM). I would recommend disconnecting the battery and then fully removing the GEM which is part of the passenger compartment fuse box. Inspect it for signs of water ingress and/or corrosion of the connectors and the circuit board tracks.

Cheers for the help @unofix! There are relays up top right with the wiring diagram. I’ve changed the two relays around (high beams and low beam) and still the same problem. I did grab the switch from an old scrap fiesta today so maybe worth going back and grabbing the whole board aswell from it tomorrow and swapped them around to see if that does the job. It’s just odd that the whole board is fine just the low beams not working.

Remove the relay for the low beams. Use a bit of wire and link out the two positions on the relay socket and see if the headlights come on. (Just as a test).

Okay perfect I’ll give that a go tomorrow. Just a quick one aswell. There are two relays next to the battery in a little box. I’m presuming they aren’t anything to do with the lights?

Do you have a meter ? Compare the two relay sockets in the fuse box.

I would be tempted to remove both relays and check that you have 12V on pins 3. And check this with a test lamp, as you need power as well as voltage.

Then check coil supply, Pin 1.

DIP - Ignition on, light switch in dip position, check for 12V.

Green illumination is from sidelight supply, which also feeds the "Lights On" buzzer,

Main beam - Ignition on, light switch in main position, Pin 1 for 12V - this point also feeds blue indication.

Coil Earths to E8, Pin 2 in both relay socketsFuses3.thumb.jpg.667db5b0b4a8b7abac85a72ddd4fa1fb.jpg.

With relays still out, remove dip fuses, (F9+F10, but check on decal on glove box) and check resistance between Pin 5, and fuseways.

If you have changed relays, bulbs etc, there is a soldered joint feeding both fuseways.fiesta01.thumb.jpg.0a81cf257a34f216244105404b48bc3f.jpg

See the Haynes Manual. for full schematic.

You saying just link through 5 & 3 on K41?

One of those relays is for the radiator fan, and the other I think maybe for the AC compressor or the glow plugs if your car is diesel.

Just another one, just had a thought. I can hear the relay engaging and disengaging when trying to switch it to low beams. I’ve just seen on the wiring there that the fuses are before the relay. So that should indicate that the light switch for the sidelights etc and also the fuses for it should be all good?

I assume that you have replaced both the headlight bulbs ?

This would not be the first time that the bulbs have not been replaced, only to be found later that both had failed at the same time.

Have you tried linking pin 3 to 5 yet on the relay? If you do, both dip bulbs should light.

I think that would be a "no"

As you will see I suggested that to the OP yesterday.

Yes, I'd noticed you had, I was just gently prompting him as he'd not as yet reported back with the result.
