AC fan not working on 2018 Ecoboost

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

my wife’s 2018 Fiesta Ecoboost AC fan isn’t working. It was working last time she used it but the car has been parked for a couple of weeks over Xmas and this morning there is nothing.  No error or anything.

Is this likely to be a fuse or the fan motor?  What’s a reasonable cost to fix?

I have zero mechanical skills.  Many thanks for any advice you can give.

What do you mean by AC fan?  The radiator fan under the bonnet?

If it's been parked for a couple of weeks, the battery state of charge is probably too low for the AC to operate.  It should be fine after a long enough drive to recharge the battery.

As above, there isn't an AC fan (or rather not a dedicated one).

Taking a step back though, what issues/symptoms are you seeing?

Ford wiring Looms are prone to corrosion (AC especially) I will have look tomorrow for the specific wiring details unless somebody else is able to give you the information today?

Ordinarily a method to check the AC operation is to remove the AC Clutch relay, place a wire between 2 specific points (in place of the relay) & listen for the AC Clutch engaging, if the Clutch engages there may be a blown fuse.... There are several scenarios, unfortunately I will not be able to be more specific until tomorrow 😕 Either your Car Reg or VIN would be helpful to assist, Hopefully somebody else maybe able to help? 👍

There are also helpful videos highlighting the corrosion issues on "Youtube" that may be of help

Thanks for the replies.  She started the car and since the windscreen was clouded with condensation, she put the blower on to clear it but no air was blowing through.  So we played with the controls - off/on and various strength settings - but still nothing. The AC controls and button lights all work normally.

We were in a hurry so we took my car.
So there is a suggestion to drive her car a bit to top up the battery?  Ok, we’ll try that today and see what happens.

The reg is BP18 LWN.

Thanks again for any further help you can provide.

Ok, it sounds as though the "Blower" fan isn't spinning? I thought it was just the AC specifically that wasn't working?

Can you confirm that it is either the AC specific or the general "Heating - Cooling" that isn't functioning, Thanks, There are many different diagrams & descriptions & if we can narrow down the info that you would need it will be of help 👍😉

Thanks so much for the information.

We went for a drive today to see whether it was a low battery issue and it wasn’t. It was cold out so the windows and dash clouded up without any air flow.

Since it was cold, we only tried to heat and again there was nothing.  Although I did hit the A/C button but with the temperature set to 22 degrees and no change.

The Mrs ideally wants to travel a 100 mile round trip to work on Wednesday but I’ll not be able to get the car fixed before then so it will be the train or thick clothing.

Your welcome, it is known common fault on the earlier Fords

if you want to send me either your car reg or vin I will get some more info for you?

I would say 99% it will be your problem

Check the Fan/s.... Check the AC Clutch is engaging...If they're both good then its almost definitely the signal wire 👍

Could check fuse F7 (40a) under the bonnet.  Although I doubt that's blown in all honesty.

Sounds like the climate control panel is working.  And AC may or may not be working.  But the main fault is no air coming from the vents, suggesting the blower motor isn't being powered for some reason.  Also sounds like the recirc flap may be closed as well.

Do you have a multimeter to test battery voltage?  If the voltage is ok, I'd suggest disconnecting the battery half an hour, then reconnect and try again.

Things don't often randomly break while parked.  Either it's due to battery voltage drop, or damp has got into some electronics, or maybe a rodent has chewed some wiring in the engine bay.
