MK 2.5 1.8 brake switch

Featured Replies

Ive noticed when braking that the brake lights dont come on until the brake is fully pressed (ultimately when Ive come to a stop), they dont come on when using the brake to slow down...

Just fitted a new brake switch and it's exactly the same... is there anyother reason to cause this? Or is this how its designed?

The brake lights should activate the moment even just slight pressure is applied to the brake pedal. If your lights are not coming on until the pedal is quite far down then something is wrong.

I'm not familiar with the operation of the switch on your model, but it would suggest either the wrong switch is fitted or that there is some adjustment needed. Perhaps @TomsFocus may be able to give some advice regarding the switch.

There are two brake pedal switches on these.  Are you sure you've changed the right one?  Blue one should be at the top.  Black one should be at the bottom.

There's no adjustment on the switches themselves.  Only thing I can think is maybe you haven't got much travel on the brake pedal for some reason?  Should be able to see the switch moving when pressing the pedal if you can get into a suitable position.

I changed the blue one which was at the top, is the black one also a brake switch?

Yes, the black one is for the brake lights.  The blue one is for things like cruise control.
