Insurance

Featured Replies

I am new to this site and just realised I put this in the wrong group , Fiesta - and sent it wrongly.

Can anyone tell me why my 2006 Ford Focus C-Max Zetec Auto is so expensive to insure. Admittedly I am 83 but last year the insurance was £709 when I was 82  Can one year really bump it up by £400. This year £1150 with LV and I can only get it down with Sterling  3rd party fire and theft to £923.  I know other people my age who pay half that on their cars?  What is so special about a poxy little Ford - or me - that causes this.  Any advice would be welcome.

I'm with Boundless (used be the Civil Service Motoring Association) and I get a discount with LV. Insurance has gone up on our three cars by about 45% but we don't pay anything like as much.  Sometimes 3rd party does not give the reduction it might, especially as we are now paying the extra possible repair cost of electric cars....

Yes, all car ins costs have gone up madly over the last year. Friend has a Fiesta which went up from approx £290 to £520 which is a higher %age rise than yours. But I'm afraid that I think your advancing years do count against you . I discovered this when my father in his late 80's was paying significantly more than I was - he had a less valuable, lower group car and drove 600 miles pa compared with my 12000 miles pa.

I assume you've been through a comparison website???

Presume you've tried insurers specialising in the older driver?

Very difficult to comment without knowing exact circumstances. It is possible with online quotations to tweak various elements - add or take away drivers, annual mileage, voluntary excesses. Mentioned on another insurance thread currently running that I found adjusting voluntary excess made a surprising difference to quoted premiums.

Mentioned there also that sometimes lower annual mileage seems to count against you.

Your increase percentage over last years price seems about in line with the increase most people are seeing on car insurance I’m afraid.

In comparison my 2011 Focus MK2.5 1.6 petrol went up from £235 to £350 and I’m 51.

There's a lot of comment there about people's recent experience with renewal premiums.

DONT use ADRIAN FLUX theres NO quote option , the buggers just want to ring you back.

Similar experience recently on renewing.  I'm 80 & have been with Direct Line for a number of years & they have been excellent, actually reducing premiums.  However, this time the premium jumped from £327 to £571.  Having said that, all the comparison sites were quoting me £800/900.  Perhaps the cost to the industry of uninsured & otherwise illegal scrotes driving is finally being factored in.

nmine has gone up over £200

I'm not the only one who noticed that insurance costs can skyrocket with age due to perceived higher risk and declining health. The car model itself, combined with increasing repair costs, also plays a role. I have tried shopping around more or looking into multi-policy discounts. Sometimes, insurers offer competitive rates for new customers.

Surely not !!!

The insurance companies have all been warned about "New Customer Only" deals 🤣

Yes, it must be difficult to get a competitive quote for a Ford Austin!😀

Julia,  I think a bell-curve graph suggests that mature years/experience  count in your favour up to about 80; then they are used against you, hence hefty premium increases.

Hi.

Have you tried ourselves for insurance at all?

Regards,

Dan.

Just a suggestion, remove this clown, nobody has a good word to say about the service he provides.

The insurance on my Ecoboom went down. I'm guessing they think it won't last a whole year 😀

Standard guarantee, lunch time or till it gets dark.
