Ford S Max - X Sport - Auto - Transmission Malfunction

Featured Replies

Hi ,

I just bought an 2.0 diesel S Max X Sport 2013 with just over 50,000 miles on the clock. I just have a couple of questions in relation to the powershift auto transmission box. Ever since purchasing the vehicle 8/10 it will say low battery when i get into the vehicle. I always use it for short trips around the town.
Last week I drove to Heathrow at 4 am to drop my brother to the airport and on the return journey back a couple miles from home the light came up on the dash Transmission Malfunction. The vehicle went into limp mode and I drove it home. It was a 100 miles round trip and I had the lights on heating going.

I called the AA who attended the vehicle later the same day and found no fault codes. We took the vehicle on a 15 mile test drive and it was absolutely fine. Since then I have been using the vehicle and its been fine. The AA advised to call back if there were any issues. The Low Battery light still comes on when I go to start the vehicle.

Can you advise please as my local mechanic hadn't a clue just like the AA chap

Thanks

Jas

As mentioned in DM, change the battery

Low battery state of charge leads to many, many, many problems !!

looking for a workshop near Middlesbrough to repair powershift malfunction for SMax2014.

@Mike Ike Welcome!
I am also casting around for options in case this happens.
Most places give a sharp intake of breath so I can only suggest you ring round transmission experts to see what they say (and get a warranty etc)
However there are multiple offers on eBay ( Re-Engineered Transmissions - Essex!)
BUT I asked this lot:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/306680196299
And they are in Leeds, LS12 2AX - I know this isn't ideal.
If you find any nearer to us (I'm in Newcastle) PLEASE let me know.
I held out hope that Austrin in Cramlington would do repairs but they said spares are not available (which I really doubt?)

HOWEVER, I strongly suggest you search for threads on here detailing all the external work to check before committing to anything AND most particular, as you'll see from my posts... CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER, TEAR THE FILTER APART TO LOOK FOR EVIDENCE (OF PLASTICS ETC):
I've used this but there are Mannol versions that are even cheaper:

AND use Forscan to get the exact Ford codes if you don't have them - let us know more about this issue?

Assume you know the process for changing:
