Mk2 - Rear View Mirror - Rattle / Vibration / Loose

Featured Replies

Does anyone find the Rear View Mirror Cover to be loose / or have play in it?

I can see it vibrate which is quite distracting when you are trying use it to look behind you.

I've stipped it back and can see it locates on a hex like nut that is bonded to the windscreen.

The rear view mirror itself is rotated 30 or 60 degrees to remove it.

However when in the correct position there is still some play left and right which allows the mirror to vibrate / appear loose.

Is there a fix for this or does it require replacement rear view mirror cover and the locating part on the windscreen?

This is the locating part the rear view mirror cover twists onto to secure it.

If it really bugs you, try placing something malleable, like a bit of BluTak, on the 'nut', should be more than sufficient to dampen out any vibration...

Thanks @StephenFord I shall give that a go....

It's just a bit of a poor design / or the nut or part that locates onto it is potentially worn allowing for the excess movement.

Hopefully some bluetak will sort it.
